Helping Cranden Diamond Products measure with precision

Advancements in manufacturing and measuring techniques have transformed the landscape, enhancing the accuracy and repeatability of component production. Cranden Diamond Products, a leading manufacturer of precision grinding wheels, faced a critical challenge: accurately measuring the intricate forms of their diamond and CBN wheels. Traditional methods proved inadequate due to tool wear and irregularities inherent in the process. Also, precision diamond and CBM grinding wheels, by their nature, tools wear and some, such as grinding wheels coated with industrial diamonds or cubic boron nitride dust, are irregular and cannot be reliably measured. Instead, test pieces are ground and measured to ensure the grinding wheels can deliver the perfect ground finish expected for turbine blades and gears.

Illuminating results from a profile projector

We recommend the use of a profile projector with a screen overlay. A piece is securely positioned within a purpose-built holder situated directly in front of the projector lens and magnified, offering a detailed and enlarged view for subsequent comparison on a ground-backlit screen.

Integrating a clear overlay adds a layer of precision to the measurement process. By projecting the test piece’s image onto the screen, operators can compare it against the clarity of the overlay, ensuring accuracy in the assessment. Despite the manual nature of this procedure, the system is designed to achieve an exceptionally high level of accuracy. The system’s user-friendly design is noteworthy, allowing for straightforward operation by multiple operators. The simplicity of the process empowers operators to load the test part effortlessly, select the appropriate overlay, and execute the comparison with ease. This intuitive interface streamlines the measurement process and enhances the system’s overall efficiency, making it a versatile and accessible tool for a diverse range of operators. The adaptability of this method ensures that several operators can utilize the system without compromising its precision, thereby underscoring its practicality and effectiveness in diverse operational scenarios.

The Horizontal Floor Standing Optical Comparator

We recommend The Horizontal Floor Standing Optical Comparator or HF600. It is a time-tested, cost-effective solution for non-contact measurement. They are simple to use yet have excellent capacity and performance to satisfy many dimensional inspection applications and complex measuring requirements. At the heart of these systems are precision optics, superb lighting, and a highly accurate workstage, which are combined to ensure bright, sharp images and exceptional accuracy. Horizontal models work well with parts that must be fixtured, held in a vice, or on centres.
